about - to do: rewrite
Michaela Haawè Owen is an experimenting, upcycling, fashion designer interested in identity, heritage, and sustainable design that explores these themes. Her current work focuses on understanding her own indigeneity through collecting family histories then allowing these stories to speak through fashion design.
After having attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio she decided to act upon her inspiration to pursue fashion design and transfer overseas. Her experience studying fashion design at Parsons Paris was incredibly eye-opening, revealing opportunities for growth both creatively and personally. After taking a short hiatus from courses to explore the realities of the fashion industry in New York City, she decided to go back to school. She is currently attending the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) where she is completing her Bachelors of Fine Arts with a fashion design studies minor.
